(WAUSAU, WI) Catchers Geoff Klein and Carson Vitale will be working behind the plate this summer for the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Klein (left) is a sophomore at Santa Clara University while Vitale (right)is a sophomore at McLennan Community College. The ‘Chucks open up the 2008 season in Eau Claire on May 29th.
Klein is a 6’4”, 185 pound catcher/infielder from Huntington Beach, California. He has started in 44 games this spring and is hitting .314 for the 32-18 Broncos. Klein has 12 doubles, three home runs, and 31 runs batted in. The Broncos are in third place in the West Coast Conference, behind nationally ranked San Diego (#8) and Pepperdine (#14). As a high school senior in 2006, Klein was the Goldenwest League’s Most Valuable Player and was named to the All-California Interscholastic Federation First Team.
Vitale is hitting .317 for the McLennan Community College Highlanders. A native of British Columbia, Canada, Vitale has displayed his gap-hitting power this spring as he leads the team in doubles with 20. At 6’2”, 225 pounds he was a two-time Top Catcher at the Canadian High School Nationals.
